Background info
BEOWULF is a popular story believed to be made by a Northumbrian monk between 700 and 750 B.C. Beowulf is the longest epic poem in Old English, which is the language spoken in Anglo-Saxon England. More than 3,000 lines long, Beowulf relates the exploits of its hero, and his successive battles with a monster, named Grendel, with Grendel’s revengeful mother, and with a dragon which was guarding a hoard of treasure. They had a monarchic government. The king was the head of state and highest of the nobles.
And a little about their religion... They practiced animism which actually means spirit. In those times, they basically believed in and worshiped, gods and goddesses. This story is very interesting, but it's a little hard to understand in my opinion just because of the way it's written. But other than that, it's awesome! So check it out and go explore!
